You can only change the world, if you share your ideas and knowledge.
Are you ready to take media relations into your own hands and change people's life through what you have to share? Are you sick of expensive PR agencies that bring nothing but hot air? Here is your opportunity. Just do press work yourself!
I’m Nadine Bütow and I’m so overwhelmed that you’ve come by and check out my website. This means that you are serious about starting your own publicity work and finally get the ball rolling towards your first press feature. Congrats on that! The major step is taken!
I have been in the media and PR business for more than 15 years. I started at an international agency for strategic communications and worked with DAX30, Fortune500 and mid-sized companies to help them raise their profile or maneuver well them through company crises. And now, I’m following this path as an entrepreneur. My mission is to support you as entrepreneurs, self-employed, coaches, authors or freelancers in preparing the ground for your first publicity work. But most importantly: I would like you to understand the big picture. Once you got that, the road onwards will be easier to take.
During my agency time, I worked with numerous fantastic and incredibly smart journalists – in the agency itself as well as during the PR and media relations work for clients. They came from national publications such as the Financial Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Business Insider, Handelsblatt but also online and trade publications from various sectors. These were exciting times!
And I realized how journalists ticked, what they needed and what not. And I also acknowledged the dilemma journalists are often in: little time, s***t loads of topics and even more requests from PRs, endless press releases from entrepreneurs and poor story pitches that simply did not meet their needs. Improving this is another driver behind my mission.
I HAVE A THREE-FOLD VISION
First: I would like to make sure that those inspiring stories and expertise of you are not kept behind closed doors but to make them public and share them with a broader audience. Therewith, you do your part in changing the world in small, but powerful ways! Your stories deserve to be heard!
Second: I would like to facilitate the life of journalists and ensure that their time is more appreciated. Journalists take up an incredibly important role in society. They are so-called gatekeepers and ultimately craft and conduct what is being published to the masses. They therefore determine what is to “become the public’s social reality, and their view of the world” (Shoemaker & Vos, 2009). If we as entrepreneurs ensure that we deliver relevant and thought-through story pitches, we give them more time to fulfil their role as gatekeepers. Likewise, good pitches will facilitate your life, too!
And third: I want to educate you more than just telling you where to find relevant journalists. I would like you to grasp and get a feeling for the overall picture - business and media wise. And finally, I would like to make you move out of your comfort zone. Yes, becoming visible in such a way is a damned scary thing. But: no pain no gain. No visibility - no impact to the world nor your business.
Be courageous and make it happen!
To your success!
PEOPLE THINK THAT PRESS WORK IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOU WHEN YOUR BUSINESS IS BIG ENOUGH. THAT'S A MYTH. YOU HAVE TO ACTIVELY STEP OUT AND DO THE WORK.
